Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations was organized in 1955 out of a growing concern for unified action by major American Jewish organizations to help strengthen peace and stability in the Middle East. It served as a forum for exchange of information and as coordinating body for its members, dealing with American-Israel affairs and problems affecting Jews in other lands. LHW served as Chairman during the years 1963-1965. This series covers the years 1963-1981 and reflects the Conference's activities at the time: the publishing of documents, the calling of conferences and the personal exchange of views in meetings with political figures and Jewish communal leaders in other lands, including President Richard Nixon, Secretary of State Rogers, Prime Minister Golda Meir of Israel, et al. This series includes correspondence with Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Label A. Katz, Isaiah Minkoff, Yehudah Hellman, et al; press releases, news clippings, meeting agendae, Near East Reports, acknowledgements of congratulations on Weinstein's chairmanship, reports and minutes of meetings, material on Israel/Arab relations, budgets and notes.
