Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Combined Jewish Philanthropies is the central planning, budgeting and fundraising arm of the metropolitan Boston Jewish Community. It helps support 12 local constituent agencies and 75 other local, national and overseas social welfare and educational organizations. About half of its annual campaign is allocated to human service needs in Israel and to aiding Jews around the world. Founded in 1895, CJP was the first federated charity in the United States and has served as the model for United Way, Catholic Charities, and the numerous Jewish Federations around the country. LHW served as president from 1955-1957 and as general campaign chairman from 1956-1957. This series includes correspondence, minutes, treasurer's reports, printed material and miscellany primarily during the 1960s.
