Sheet Music, 1905-1964
Scope and Content Note
The Papers of Samuel Moshcovitz contains a collection of sheet music from the early to mid-twentieth century, along with correspondence from lawmakers and organizations replying to letters sent to them by Moshcovitz. Two folders, plus one oversize folder, hold sheet music with copyright dates between 1905 and 1964. These are accompanied by a folder containing programs for a show called "Memories of the Yiddish Theater," written and directed by Mary Wolfman Epstein, and presented by Congregation Kehillath Israel, as well as sheet music used in the show. Items in these folders are arranged in chronological order.
One folder includes correspondence from lawmakers responding to Moshcovtiz's concerns about the United States policy in the Middle East, while another folder relates to Moshcovitz's request to distribute Senator Daniel Inouye’s commencement address delivered at Brandeis University on May 20, 1990. Moshcovitz sent out 360 copies of the address and received replies from lawmakers, including then President George Bush, Jimmy Carter, and members of Congress, along with organizations, such as the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, the National Media Resource Center, and the Anti-Defamation League. Both of these folders are arranged in alphabetical order by sender.
