News Clippings—Springfield Urban Renewal, 1907-1985
Scope and Contents
This series contains miscellaneous items collected by the Jewish Historical Society of Western Massachusetts, including antisemitic and racist flyers, news clippings on the region, miscellaneous life cycle events of Western Massachusetts residents, and a proclamation made by the city of Springfield proclaiming May 23, 1990 Yom Yerushaliyim Day. Of particular interest may be the news clippings on Springfield's urban renewal efforts in the 1960s, which greatly affected the North End, where many synagogues were located and many Jews resided.
