Synagogue History/Historic Photographs, undated
Scope and Contents
This series includes documents pertaining to the governance and founding of the shul. These records include meeting minutes from the annual meeting and the monthly board meetings from the years 1992-2018. Committee reports are also included, from permanent committees like development, education, facilities, finance, membership, ritual, and publicity.
There is information on the hiring process for rabbis, the bulk of the records regarding the 2004 and 2015 rabbinic searches. The Restoration Committee records include meeting minutes, fundraising material, blueprints, and photographs of the interior. Outside of meeting minutes, this series includes records of donations and dues, some going back to 1924, documenting the notable fundraising done by the community for the Aron Kodesh and Keter for the Torah.
Additionally, there are several ad hoc committees, like the By-Laws Committee or the New Americans Committee, which was created to provide support to the newly immigrated Soviet Jews. Also included is information on the building insurance, including a War Damage Corporation form from 1942. Records also contain narrative descriptions of the synagogue's founding and history, including photographs of early families, copies of the 1911 charter, and documents of the vandalism from 1997.
