 File — Box: 2, Folder: 31

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series consists of various writings by Arthur Green. The series contains a paper written by Arthur Green while he was at the Jewish Theological Seminary, a proposal for a Jewish Spirituality Center at Brandeis University, a manuscript for one of Professor Green’s books, an essay in response to the Sabra and Shatila massacre, and writings associated with the Havurat movement. His JTS paper formed the basis of a lifetime interest in Mehr ben Ezekiel Ibn Gabbai, a kabbalist who lived in the 16th century. The “Beirut, Israel, and the Jewish People” essay, the Seek My Face, Speak My Name manuscript, and the Jewish Spirituality Center at Brandeis University Proposal were never published. The Jewish Spirituality Center Proposal has its roots in the Havurat Shalom movement. In his writing, Professor Green repeatedly came back to the idea of creating a place where one could “live a Judaism that was spiritually intense [and] morally powerful” outside of Orthodoxy that was “accessible to the contemporary seeker.”
