Subseries II: Holocaust of European Jewry and World War II, 1941-1974

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Shapiro had the position, as a reporter, to document news of the Holocaust of European Jewry, itself, and the commemorations and memorials that occurred thereafter. Articles between 1941 and 1945 illustrate what was known about the Holocaust and the plight of European Jewry, while also calling for reparations. Later articles include the stories of survivors, usually when talking at an event in the Boston metropolitan area. In many April articles, Leo Shapiro and the Boston Jewish community mark the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943.
