Shapiro began his career as a newsman covering education issues. The topics covered in this series range from educational theory to student activities. The focus is frequently on the problems and accomplishments of Boston institutions. Higher education is also covered. Of note are the articles on juvenile delinquency, including reactions to and proposed solutions to the perceived problem of "youth gone wild." One sub-series covers the founding of Brandeis University, funding, special events, and student organizations. Of note are articles on the founding of the university and Eleanor Roosevelt visiting the campus.
