Scope and Content Note
This collection contains genealogical records, vital records, books, photographs, medals and awards, and other materials of the Muhlhauser, Einstein, Goodman families, and to a lesser extent, the Warshing family. The bulk of the collection centers on Frederick P. and Lucille Einstein Muhlhauser and the records from their early lives, wedding, and life on their farm in Rochester, New York.

Biographical Note
Frederick Muhlhauser
Frederick Muhlhauser was born in Bern, Switzerland in 1842. He immigrated to the United States and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. Frederick fought in the American Civil War in an Ohio regiment. After the war, Frederick married Antoinette Kanheimer, born in 1848 in Prussia. Together they had nine children.
- Sigmund Muhlhauser: born 1870 (see below).
- Frank Muhlhauser: born November 1887; married Elsa B. Levi Muhlhauser, with whom he had 2 children, John and Lois; died April 25, 1946.
- Sophie Muhlhauser: born January 30, 1871; died March 5, 1939.
- Samuel Muhlhauser: born November 24, 1872; married Ella M. Burton Long on January 26, 1899; died February 15, 1934.
- Helen Muhlhauser Frankel: born May 14, 1876; married Sigmund R. Frankel and had one daughter, Elsinore; died April 16, 1911.
- Alfred Muhlhauser: born 1879; died June 22, 1887.
- Benjamin Muhlhauser: born 1883; married Blanch Hill Muhlhauser; date of death unknown.
- Hilda Muhlhauser Richards: born 1885; married Charles R. Richards; died 1923.
- Adolph Muhlhauser: born December 16, 1881; married Lilliann Conrad; date of death unknown.
Frederick became a citizen of the United States on April 10, 1893. He died on November 1, 1893, in Cleveland, Ohio. Antoinette died in 1909.
Sigmund and Rose Hirsh Muhlhauser
Sigmund Muhlhauser was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1870 and married Rose Hirsh on April 26, 1896 in New York. Rose Hirsh Muhlhauser was born on August 16, 1876, daughter of Philipp Hirsh and Sophia Gottschalk. The Hirsh family immigrated to the United States from Germany and lived in New Jersey, where Rose was born. By 1905 Sigmund and Rose had moved from Ohio to New Jersey where Sigmund was working as a “manager of woolen works.” Sigmund and Rose had one son:
- Frederick P. Muhlhauser: born November 18, 1897, (see below).
Sigmund died August 8, 1913, and Rose died December 31, 1943.
Alfred and Miriam Goodman Einstein
Alfred Einstein was born on March 17, 1872 in Frankfurt, Germany and immigrated to the United States, where he married Miriam Goodman, born in New York in 1870. Miriam was the daughter of Louis Henry Goodman and Sara Warshing. Alfred became a citizen on September 12, 1894. The couple was married on November 21, 1897. The family lived in Brookline, Massachusetts. They had one daughter:
- Lucille Hilda Einstein: born October 6, 1901, (see below).
Alfred died on November 11, 1951. Miriam’s date of death is unknown.
Frederick P. and Lucille Einstein Muhlhauser
Frederick P. Muhlhauser was born on November 18, 1897 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1917 Frederick joined the American Field Service and from June-December of 1917 he drove ambulances with the French Army on the Verdun front in World War I.
Frederick P. and Lucille were married on September 7, 1921 in Boston, MAssachusetts by Rabbi Harry Levi of Temple Israel. They were both students at Harvard University; Fred was in the class of 1920 and Lucille was in the class of 1924. By the 1930s the couple moved to Rochester, New York. Fred was Vice President of Superba Cravats until his retirement in 1950. The couple had one daughter, Elliott. Frederick P. died in November 1969, and Lucille died on February 12, 1982.
