Scope and Contents
This subseries contains awards, correspondence, anniversary programs, newsletters, photographs, news clippings, and brochures documenting Margolis’s tenure as Deputy Director, and later Executive Director, of the Monroe County Library System (MCLS). Included are numerous awards and plaques, including the Librarian of the Year awarded by the Michigan Library Association in 1985; library brochures and pamphlets documenting the library system's programming and events; materials on the MCLS’s 50th and 75th anniversaries (the latter of which Margolis returned to Monroe for in 2009); and news clippings chronicling the MCLS’s programs and activities during this period. Also included are materials related to activities in which Margolis participated outside of the MCLS, including his work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Monroe Country, his publications in The Bottom Line and other library journals and magazines, and the 50th anniversary celebration of Little Brown Bear, a children’s book character created by Monroe resident Elizabeth Upham McWebb.
