Subseries II: Holidays, 1943-1974

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

The major Jewish holidays, other than the Sabbath, Shabbat, covered by Leo Shapiro were Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Hanukkah, Passover, and Shavuot. The articles in this series describe the meanings of the holidays, but also add context, based on current events. For example, the theme of liberation in the Passover seder (ritual feast and service) is frequently discussed in context to justice in the world, whether it is related to Soviet Jewry, Civil Rights, or the Holocaust.
