Abstract
Congregation Agudas Sholom or Agudath Shalom (known colloquially as the Walnut Street Shul or Synagogue) was chartered in 1887 by a minyan as Ohabei Shalom of Chelsea. In 1901, the congregation purchased a property at Walnut St and 5th. After the building was destroyed in the Great Chelsea Fire of 1908, the congregations of Agudas Achim and Ohabei Shalom of Chelsea merged membership and formed Congregation Agudas Sholom. Abstract
The Hebrew Free Loan Association was formed circa 1935 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to offer interest-free loans to dues-paying members of the organization in need of temporary financial relief. The records of the Association consist of two bound ledgers, one containing minutes from meetings of the organization’s officers, and the other holding a list of account holders and their transactions between 1949 and 1970.
