Historical Note
The Quincy Jewish Community Center was incorporated in December 1943, and its building was dedicated in October 1944. Its building at 10 Merrymount Road—originally a telephone building—was donated by the Grossman family, and Reuben A. Grossman served as the center's first president. The Quincy JCC opened a Sunday School and a Hebrew School; had an auditorium, lounge, health room, and a bowing alley; and hosted lectures, concerts, and sports teams. It also hosted various clubs, including Young Judaea, Women's Club, Girl Scounts, Alpha Zedeck Alpha, and Men's Club and published a biweekly newsletter, The Center Review. Due to the declining Jewish population in Quincy, the center closed and its building was sold in 1982. It joined the South Area Jewish Communiy Center, later known as the Striar Jewish Community Center.
