Historical Note

Congregation Mishkan Israel (also referred to as Mishkan Yisroal) was founded circa 1895 in Dorchester, Boston, Massachusetts. In 1916, the congregation broke ground on its new building on Westville Street; Mayor James Curley spoke at the celebration. The congregation later had buildings on Geneva Avenue and finally at 137 Dakota Street. Rabbis included Herman Benmosche, Leon King, Israel Gold, and Benjamin Green, who served for over 50 years. Congregation Mishkan Israel dissolved in 1977, and its building was sold to a church.
