Historical Note

Congregation Anshe Sefard was founded in 1906 and established a synagogue at 29 Haskins Street in Roxbury, Massachusetts in November 1915. The Ahavas Zion Hebrew School was later opened at 27 Haskins Street. The synagogue was often referred to as the Ahavas Zion Synagogue or the Haskins Street Synagogue. Much of the community moved away from the neighborhood starting in the 1940s and 1950s and the building was taken for Boston's urban renewal project in 1971. The synagogue's materials were then given to Temple Shalom in Milton, MA.
