Scope and Content Note
This collection contains typed transcripts of the first meeting of the George Peabody Lodge No. 667 branch, as well as a record ledger containing meeting minutes beginning on January 1, 1913 and ending on January 1, 1932, as recorded in English by Secretaries F. Hershenson and Sol Hershenson and in Yiddish by Secretary J. Edelstein. This collection also contains semi-annual reports to the U.S. Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of B’rith Abraham for 1927 and 1929. The collection was established by the Jewish Heritage Center of the North Shore, previously known as the North Jewish Historical Society, through many separate donations of materials relating to the North Shore's Jewish community.

Biographical / Historical
The George Peabody Lodge, No. 667 was a branch of the Independent Order of B’rith Abraham located in Peabody, Massachusetts. The local lodge was established on January 1, 1913. It was institutionalized on February 2, 1913 and remained active until 1930. Elihu A. Hershenson served as the branch’s first president.
The organization offered sick, death, and funeral benefits to both male and female members of the Jewish community for a monthly fee of $1 for single persons and $1.75 for married couples. Meetings were held every first and third Sunday of the month at the O’Shea Building in Foresters Hall at 9 Main Street Though the organization was reportedly inactive in 1930, no official disbandment date is listed and meetings of the branch were recorded through 1932. The collection was established by the Jewish Heritage Center of the North Shore through many separate donations of materials relating to North Shore's Jewish community.
